Self Portrait

This self portrait was done using an old mirror and different methods of shading with charcoal. The piece was started with filling in our sheet with charcoal then using a chamois to set a base layer. Highlights and shading were then added by using an eraser and the charcoal residue on the chamois.

Negative Space Composition

This charcoal piece was an assignment to emphasize the negative space and produce a fine composition. The object in the piece intertwine within in each other creating an abstract look when only its silhouette is being drawn.

Pumpkin Composition

The true challenge from this piece was picking a good composition. I wanted to highlight each inanimate object with keeping it interesting. I chose to pick an angle where the backdrop ends so that the negative space is adding contrast to the drawing.
